Off-Season Training Opportunities
We would like to inform the wrestlers and parents of opportunities for training in the off-season. During the spring the wrestling world shifts its focus to the Olympic styles of wrestling. This training is great for improving the takedown ability of the wrestler and can lead to being on one of the summer national teams for Minnesota USA Wrestling, if they wish to pursue that challenge. Though it may sound intimidating to someone who has never tried freesyle or greco-roman wrestling, it is fun and rewarding in the long run. You can go to the links page and look at the MN USA Wrestling or the USA wrestling links for more info.
In addtion to freestyle and greco training, there is a multitude of wrestling camps which wrestlers can attend throughout the summer. Camps are good to help wrestlers improve their technique for the style of wrestling we do during our the youth through high school level school year season. It is fun to meet and train with other wrestlers from around the state or nation. There are great camps right here in the metro area at the U of MN and Augsburg, as well as camps available all over the nation, if you wish to get out of the area. Wrestling camps begin as soon as school is out and continue throughout the summer. Ask the coaches for information on camps or go to our links page to browse for info on camps. Along with improving our wrestling technique and knowledge, we would like to have our wrestlers improve their strength and power. There are strength training opportunities at HHS which will be beneficial to the wrestlers. We believe if the wrestlers will work on their wrestling technique, skills, and knowledge a minimum of one day per week, along with their strength and power, we will come into next season at the same or higher level than when we left last season. The work in the off-season will definitely payoff next westling season. In the columnn to the left, are specific opportunities which are available to the wrestlers. If you have questions, please feel free to contact a coach for more information.
